Der Konvent der Bürgermeister ist eine offizielle europäische Bewegung, im Rahmen derer sich die beteiligten Städte freiwillig zur Steigerung der Energieeffizienz und Nutzung nachhaltiger Energiequellen verpflichten. Selbst auferlegtes Ziel der Unterzeichner des Konvents ist es, die energiepolitischen Vorgaben der Europäischen Union zur Reduzierung der CO2-Emissionen um 20 % bis zum Jahr 2020 noch zu übertreffen.
